You have a polished draft of your manuscript and you are ready to start querying agents or publishers. You need a strong query letter and synopsis that offers a strong hook and effective comp titles. Receive a brief guide to writing a strong query package and two rounds of feedback on your query letter and synopsis.

This package includes a two-step process. First, I’ll send you some resources to make sure your query letter and synopsis meet industry expectations for structure and formatting. Then, I’ll review your query letter and synopsis and provide big-picture feedback. Once you have implemented my feedback, I will do a second review to polish the prose and make sure it is ready to send off.

    1. A PDF handout with some guidelines on writing a strong query letter and synopsis

    2. One round of big picture feedback on the query letter and synopsis using comments function in Word. 

    3. A second round of editing focused on sentence-level polishing. This will be done using tracked changes and the comments function in Word.

Query Letter Review: Frequently Asked Questions

  • Because the query letter review includes multiple rounds of back and fourth I recommend setting aside a couple of weeks. Timelines will be included in your estimate and agreed upon in the contract.

    1. Send me a message via the contact form or email with details about your project including word count, deadlines, and your publishing goals.

    2. Together we will decide on a timeline that works for both of us and then I will send a contract and invoice. Payment is required in full before we begin.

    3. I will send up a PDF document with tips for writing a query letter. Use that to review your letter and send me your best version of the letter and a synopsis as a MS word document along with any questions.

    4. I will review the letter and make suggestions for changes using the comment function in MS Word.

    5. You will have a chance to make changes using my suggestions.

    6. I will do a final copy edit/proofread of the document using the track changes function before sending it back to you.

    7. You review the changes and either accept them or ignore them as you wish. You are ready to send it out into the world!

  • Yes, of course. Your manuscript is kept secure and confidential. Not sharing work is an essential part of being an editor.

  • Payments can be made directly through the invoice using a credit card. I can also accept direct bank transfers through Wise.

    *Canadian clients can request their invoice in CAD and pay through interac e-transfer.

  • I do not use AI when editing. My edits are 100% human-powered. I prefer not to work on manuscripts or query letters that are written with AI.

  • Yes! I am based in British Columbia, Canada but I work with clients all around the world.
